Start a Special Olympics Program

There are thousands of Special Olympics program in communities around the world, but there is room for more. If you find there is none near you and you want to start one, follow the directions in this article.

The first step is finding the state or country program nearest you.

The Special Olympics movement is committed to achieving quality growth by creating innovative opportunities to bring the Special Olympics experience to more of the world's 190 million people with intellectual disabilities.

First, use our Program Locator (click here to call it up ) to contact your state/provincial or national Special Olympics Program to determine if there already is a local Program in your area. If there is no local Program in your area, tell the state/provincial or national Special Olympics office that you want to contribute to the growth of the movement by starting a local Program.

The state/provincial or national Special Olympics office will guide you through the process and provide you with all the resources and information you need to get started. In addition, Special Olympics has put together the Ready, Set, Go! Special Olympics Local Program Development Kit and Guide to help you and potential Special Olympics athletes become fully involved in the movement.
