INspire Greatness Gala
周五 4月 20, 2018
06:00 PM - 12:00 AM
Special Olympics Illinois (SO IL) intends to continue the
momentum created at the inaugural Inspire Greatness Gala, which celebrated the historic occasion of the birth of the Special Olympics movement on July 20, 1968 at Soldier Field in Chicago with 1,000 athletes participating.
Fifty years later, the movement is international in scope,
touching the lives of over 4.5 million athletes, millions more families and volunteers in 170 countries. SO IL provides year round athletic training and competition in 17 sports for more than 22,000 children and adults with intellectual disabilities, and nearly 20,000 Young Athletes (ages 2-7), encouraging the development of physical fitness and enabling a network of opportunities to develop sustaining friendships.
As in previous years, the event is expected to draw scores of Chicago dignitaries and notables. The 2018 Inspire Greatness Gala again pays tribute to the City of Chicago and the role that it has played in this historic movement and showing the world how Special Olympics transforms lives.
This year’s Gala video will feature Special Olympics Illinois
athlete Bree Bogucki. Bree was diagnosed with an autism
spectrum disorder, and an extreme processing disorder she did not walk or talk until after her 2nd birthday. After finding Special Olympics at 9 years old, she began to feel accepted and experience success. Her confidence improved and she no longer felt so different. Music soothed her sensory issues, and after listening to music for years, she developed perfect pitch and is now an accomplished singer. Bree still struggles with
issues related to autism, but works hard to accomplish her
goals. Bree attends Harper College and competes on the cross country team. In 2015, she was invited by Coca-Cola and Special Olympics to take part in recording a song for Special Olympics World Games with Mark Roberge of OAR, Cody Simpson, and Madison Tevlin. As Bree says, “People with disabilities can do great things!”
