“I crossed the line and it felt amazing” - Leanne Peters, Special Olympics Great Britain Athlete.

Paris2Nice was founded by Special Olympics in 2011 as a fundraiser to support the work of our national programmes in the Europe/Eurasia region. As the event this year will support multiple charities we are asking people to support us in 2013 and nominate Special Olympics as your chosen charity for Paris2Nice.

We need as many riders as possible this year ride and raise money for Special Olympics. Funds raised will support the Special Olympics programme chosen by the riders and the development work of Special Olympics across Europe.

Paris2Nice changes lives for our athletes

Leanne is a member of the Special Olympics South West Club in Scotland. This is the moment she crossed the finish line in 2012 after many gruelling days in the saddle, accompanied all the way by her Special Olympics coach Tom Ahara.“ *The group were fantastic and provided great support for Leanne and me. Leanne Peters was the first Special Olympics athlete to take part in the Paris2Nice cycle challenge. Leanne has both an intellectual disability and cerebral palsy and it was a week of many firsts for Leanne!

She had never spent more than a night away from her mother; never cycled more than 85kms and had never cycled in an event over consecutive days. Leanne is a member of the Special Olympics South West Club in Scotland and is a true champion! Over the 6 days of Paris2Nice, Leanne managed to ride 4 of the days and she covered 425km during the week.

Tom Ahara, Leannes coach, picks up Leanne’s story: “Given that Leanne’s previous longest ride was on average 85km which she said took her 6 1/2 hours and 8 minutes to complete, for her to do 100km in just over 5 hours on the first day was a fantastic achievement. Then to go out the next day and do 135km was unbelievable. With each day of riding Leanne visually improved her performance and her own self belief that she could ride the whole day”.

Since returning home Leanne has gone from strength to strength both on and off the bike. She shared her experiences of the cycle with her fellow Special Olympians at her regions’ AGM and is now gearing up for a 400km charity ride later this year!

The Route: Saturday 28th September to Thursday 3rd October

Day 1: Paris to Montargis - 130km

Day 2: Montargis to Bourges - 130km

Day 3: Bourges to Vaison-La-Romaine - 70km

Day 4: Vaison-la-Romaine to Aix-en-Provence - 105km

Day 5: Aix-en-Provence to Draguignan -100km

Day 6: Draguignan to Nice - 95km

Costs
• Sharing twin room costs: €1,750
• Single occupancy costs: €2,150
• Commitment to fundraise a minimum of €3,000

What’s included in the entry fee?
• All logistics in France are managed by a professional cycle touring company
• 7 nights accommodation including Friday night in Paris and Thursday night in Nice
• Bike transfer from Dublin to Paris and Nice to Dublin
• Baggage transfer each day to the next hotel
• All meals including a welcome dinner in Paris and a celebratory dinner in Nice. Breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks each day of the cycle
• Logistical support – cycle guides, mechanics, safety vehicles.

• Travel to Paris and from Nice
• Travel Insurance
– personal travel; bike & personal liability
