OGC Nice is delighted to announce that it has become the first Club Ambassador for Special Olympics France. Within this role OGC Nice will use the power of football to promote respect, acceptance and inclusion of young people and adults with intellectual disabilities.

The club commitment includes making available their first class facilities for Special Olympics training sessions and to also help recruite and train the Special Olympics team to represent France in the 2015 Special Olympics World Summer Games to be celebrated in Los Angeles, USA.

The Club are also preparing to dedicate a match during the 2014 or 2015 season to “The Road to Los Angeles” and in support of all of the 24,000 Special Olympics athletes in France. OGC Nice will also seek to involve supporters, coaches and partners as part of the promotion of inclusion for people with intellectual disabilities in sport.

“It is estimated that only 1 in 500 children with intellectual disability are given the chance to play football due to being seen by their peers as being ‘different’ or ‘without ability,’” says Mary Davis, Regional President of Special Olympics France. “Partnership with OGC Nice will help create opportunities for Special Olympics athletes in France and transform the way communities and groups think and act in regard to disability.”

OGC Nice joins a strong team of other first division clubs who are Club Ambassadors for Special Olympics including: Serie A Champions Inter Milan, UK Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur, Brazil’s Corinthians FC and the Republic of Ireland National team.

Also Special Olympics is supported by football greats such as Kaka, Osvaldo (Ossie) Ardiles, Dani Alves, Zico, Romario, Teofilo Cubillas, David James, Doris Fitschen and Christine Lilly. Special Olympics is partnered by FIFA and the Football Confederations.
