130 kilometres away from Nairobi, on the slopes of Kilimanjaro lies Embu, the location of the Healthy Athletes screening conducted on the 25th of May. A visit was made by the SO Kenya, National Director Mr. John Makhathimo a week prior to the screening to conduct grass root mobilization. He met the headmaster of the St Monica Special School where the event was being hosted, the Medical Superintended at the Provincial General Hospital in Embu, the Country Director of Education, the local radio station and all media houses based in Embu. This grass roots mobilisation resulted in the most successful screening to date in Kenya. A total of 335 athletes arrived accompanied by thirty four coaches. 48 medical students, 27 medical specialists, and 6 clinical directors volunteered their time to ensure that the athletes got the best possible care and that the event ran smoothly. These fantastic volunteers have also committed their time to assist in the next screen that will take place in the Kerugoya County. The event was well covered by K24 TV, Citizen TV, KBC TV and Wi-Mwaro FM Radio. A big shout out to all our volunteers and media in Kenya. Without you we cannot make a difference.
