Cassie's First Swimming Competition

Watching my daughter Cassie swim with fluid freestyle in her first swimming competition was a great delight and encouragement for me. She came first in her division and won a gold medal! In fact out of four races she came home with 2 gold medals and 1 ribbon! Wow you can imagine what that did for her confidence and self-esteem. It was a very happy car ride home with singing, chatting and the jangle of medals placed firmly around our competitors’ necks. When Cassie started swimming she was afraid of the deep end but her wonderful instructors gently but firmly and very patiently helped her achieve her laps, ending each lesson with some fun activities. At the end of term they all went on the big water slide. Initially Cassie was very nervous but she just followed her group of friends and had the best time of her life! We never really thought about entering into competitions but Cassie’s friends persuaded us and we are so glad we went.

About Me:

Cassie joined Special Olympics swimming at a young age with the aim of ‘waterproofing’ her, helping her fitness and especially improving her leg muscles following surgery.
