Kaiser Permanente will serve as a founding champion sponsor and the official, first-ever Total Health partner for the 2015 Special Olympics World Summer Games in Los Angeles. On 30 July, a kick-off event took place at the Los Angeles Coliseum to announce the Summer Games. Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti touted the tremendous benefit the Games will provide to the Los Angeles area. Garcetti also shared that U.S. President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama will serve as honorary chairs of the 2015 Special Olympics World Games. The Games - to be held 25 July - 2 August, 2015 - will be the biggest event in Los Angeles since the 1984 Olympic Games, and the largest sports-and-humanitarian event anywhere in the world in 2015.
