Special Olympics Georgia athlete selected athlete of the month

Alt Image
Helena Fickling, a 17- year-old Special Olympics athlete of Fayette County, with her unforgettable personality, is the athlete of the month because of her determination and strength of character. Helena first attended The Joseph Sams School, a school dedicated to the education and development of children who have intellectual and physical disabilities, but now attends White Water High School. She has been an active and enthusiastic participant earning ribbons in competitions including the softball throw, 50 yard dash and the long jump. At the statewide level, she has competed in artistic gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, volleyball, and the equestrian competition, bringing home many ribbons and medals. She will be a part of the Fayette County bocce team at State Fall Games. Helena's other interests include skating, zumba, karaoke, dancing, and attending Camp INSPIRE! At the week-long athlete camp this year, for the first time, she conquered her fear of heights and attempted the climbing wall, dangling duo and the giant swing. We are proud of you, Helena, and look forward to seeing you soon! Editor's note: After Helena was selected, her school sent of her standing with a sign congratulating her for her award in front of the school.
