On Sept. 28, Special Olympics Iowa (SOIA) celebrated the annual Eunice Kennedy Shriver Day and her lasting legacy that continues to have a life changing impact for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. “We were thrilled to commemorate Eunice Kennedy Shriver Day through so many Unified Sports events and different activities,” said SOIA President and CEO Hal Pittman. “It’s a hallmark of the vision and dreams Mrs. Shriver had more than 40 years ago to change the lives of athletes through sports competitions.” Activities were held across the entire state. In Davenport, a Bocce Tournament had 22 teams participate. In Des Moines, part of the World’s Largest Truck Convoy had 48 trucks involved and raised $14,000+ for SOIA. Principal Financial Group sponsored the Unified Golf Tournaments at Jester Park and Akron. In Sioux City, athletes and Law Enforcement participated in a torch run.
