Through the Lens – A Volunteer Photographer’s Memorable Experience

Photographers have a great eye for capturing emotion, a fleeting moment in time, or an experience, but the right tools help make those images come to life. Terry Hoard, a professional freelance photographer from Valencia, California answered the call for volunteer photographers to document the 2015 Special Olympics World Summer Games. As a cancer survivor and stepmother to a woman with special needs, she was pleased to give back something back. What she didn’t know was what she would receive in return. Hoard sent an e-mail to Sony, a Special Olympics sponsor, to see what cameras they recommend for showcasing the athletes’ stories. To her surprise, she got a call from a representative from Sony USA in New York, and within days of the start of the Games, received not only a new Sony camera, but three new lens, and a video camera to cover the World Games. "It was like Christmas in July," she said.
