Special Olympics Celebrates an Extraordinary Woman’s Legacy

300 x 200 EKS Day in Egypt
Athletes, volunteers and others involved with Special Olympics Egypt posed on Eunice Kennedy Shriver Day.
The sixth annual Eunice Kennedy Shriver Day was widely celebrated around the Middle East-North Africa Region under the theme #letschangethegame. In celebration of EKS day, Special Olympics Programs in the region organized a number of sports and non-sports activities mainly focused on inclusion to commemorate the legacy of Eunice Kennedy Shriver and to pay tribute to her lifelong efforts to promote the Special Olympics movement around the world. Egypt, Lebanon, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and Jordan all celebrated EKS day in their own way but each was done in an inclusive way, too. There were Unified Sports games with teams of people with and without intellectual disabilities. There were also celebrations of the Young Athletes’ program in Lebanon. Athlete leaders were recognized and celebrated in Egypt and all athletes enjoyed the friendly inclusive environment.
