The President of Albania H.E. Ilir Meta joined Special Olympics to celebrate the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace on April 6, 2018 in Tirana.

About 180 athletes and partners took part in a sports circuit on the main boulevard with Congress and the President’s Office nearby. The circuit consisted of volleyball, mini basketball, mini football, athletics and table tennis, which the President tried. “Sport can be more inclusive than any other discipline,” said the President.

He thanked Special Olympics Albania, saying: “I will be by your side because sport is the best way to foster integration in the community and optimism between children and youth.” Joining the president as guests were senior officials from the ministries of health and social protection, and education, sport and youth; senior officials from the mayor’s office, and members of the Diplomatic Corps. The UN-designated day recognizes sport as a tool to promote peace and development initiatives.
