Sometimes we don’t know there’s something wrong until we get it tested! That was the case for Special Olympics Austria tennis player Wolfgang Troger whose eye test at the Special Olympics Middle, East and North Africa (MENA) Regional Games revealed a problem he wasn’t aware of.

When Wolfgang came to be examined through the Opening Eyes programme – which is run by professional volunteers and supported by Safilo and Essilor – Wolfgang didn’t think he had any eye problems. Aged 41, he had never worn glasses and reported no difficulties seeing. However, upon examination, it was found that Wolfgang’s vision was actually reduced by 59%. Wolfgang was given brand new prescription glasses donated by Safilo and Essilor. His new specs allow him to see clearly – 20/25 in each eye – without strain or pain.

Wolfgang went onto win a bronze medal at the MENA Games and intends to compete in Austria’s National Summer Games in Vöcklabruck this June!
