Meet Lize Weerdenburg, Special Olympics International Global Messenger!

Alt Image
Lize Weerdenburg from the Netherlands, a Special Olympics athlete who has served as an International Global Messenger (IGM) for the past four years.

Lize Weerdenburg from the Hague in the Netherlands is a busy woman! Not only is she a Special Olympics athlete and a member of our Athlete Input Council, she has also been representing the movement as an International Global Messenger (IGM) for the past four years!

None of this fazes Lize, aged 30, who has travelled around the world making presentations to the public, partners and sponsors. One particular highlight was when she danced with popstar Jason Mraz in front of thousands at the opening ceremony of the World Winter Games Austria 2017!

Lize’s term as an IGM is soon coming to a close and she’s ready to handover to other athletes who are up to the challenge. The deadline for applications to the 2018-2022 Sargent Shriver International Global Messenger is 15 May. Lize says: “Please apply if you want the opportunity to talk about how important Special Olympics is for people all over the world with intellectual disabilities!”

Lize remains an active member of the Special Olympics.
