Special Olympics Bahamas, Engaging The Youth

On 11 April, Special Olympics Bahamas held its annual local season ending soccer tournament just like in prior years. But unlike in the past, 15 high school students from several schools around the capitol were positively engaged in a way that is expected to remain with them for years to come.

While most of these students initially set out to perform school required community service, they found themselves having "an experience of a lifetime" as described by one of the youngsters. Most of the students participated in a unified soccer match while others served in other volunteer capacities including officiating the games. This was the first of many events in which Special Olympics Bahamas will be doing its part toward engaging millions of people over the next 5 years as a part of the 50th anniversary celebrations of Special Olympics.
