We had the honour to interview Dr Dondo Obey from Zimbabwe, who was invited to attend the Clinical Directors training which was held at Tshegofatsong Special School in Mamelodi, Pretoria.

Dr Obey expressed with a lot of emotion on how remarkably well organised the training was. Dr Obey said the Clinical Directors training included a brief overview of Special Olympics, a detailed theoretical training on the functioning and purpose of each screening station. He also mentioned that they were given a breakdown on how to fill up athlete information in the Healthy Athlete Screening (HAS) forms, admin forms as well as referral forms and the importance of making sure that athlete information is filled in correctly.

Dr Obey, said the training was very informative and that as clinical volunteers we need to pay attention to the athlete’s feelings as they deserve the same treatment as us in public, private environment.
