Sports can influence social change and confidence on and off the field

Maguate Bint Youba got involved in Athletics with Special Olympics Mauritania since 2006; she participated and got medals in many National competitions and now training hard to achieve her dream of qualifying for the 2019 World games.

In the past, she has always struggled greatly with low self-esteem, mood disorder, and severe anxiety, then she started exploring lifestyle changes through Sports and Special Olympics fitness program SO Fit; which helped her to restore her confidence and release all the stress and tension.

Through Sport, Maguate the 15 years old athletics athlete, had the opportunity to engage with Unified partners who are now her best friends and within only a few months of intense physical activity and improved nutrition, her family, friends and coaches felt a great change in her personality, she become more confident, social and comfortable. Her family was surprised as she exceeds what they previously thought might be the limit of her potential.
