Gloria Torruco is a philanthropist and the Founder of El Espacio de Michelle ("Michelle’s Space"), a nonprofit created in April 2013 after the birth of her daughter with Down Syndrome to support social inclusion and provide educational, developmental and other tools for children with Down Syndrome and their families in Mexico.
She is a former President of the System for Integral Development of the Family ("DIF, Cancun"), a government organization, where she led volunteer initiatives and facilitated a strategic campaign with private sector partners to provide support for vulnerable people with mobility limitations.
Ms. Torruco has worked as a specialist in corporate image and public relations, lecturing extensively on both subjects. She has a degree in Graphic Design from Anahuac University and postgraduate studies in Hotel Management.
Ms. Torruco is the sister-in-law of Carlos Slim, Jr. and daughter of Miguel Torruco Marqués, the former Secretary of Tourism for the Government of Mexico. She lives in Cancun, Mexico with her family.
