As a health worker, I pledge to be inclusive in my healthcare community by

Training all my employees how to treat patients with intellectual disabilities. One of the options is taking a Special Olympics training.

• Asking patients with intellectual disabilities about their needs before making assumptions.
• Talking and looking directly at the patient, no matter who else is in the room.
• Explaining procedures before beginning treatment.
• Asking the patient if they have any questions and giving them time to respond.
• Providing information in a format that is accessible to the patient.

Partnering with a local disability organization to help me build a more inclusive practice.
