Katy Wilson, 35, has won gold in gymnastics, and served as a Sargent Shriver International Global Messenger. She has traveled the globe to share the message and spirit of Special Olympics and tell everyone that people with Down syndrome can do anything—given high expectations and respect.

She has performed with Olympic champion gymnast Shannon Miller and others in the T.J. Maxx Tour of Champions in 2000. Katy has appeared on national television programs such as CNN’s “Page One” and ABC’s Wide World of Sports.

During Christmas 2000, Katy appeared on “A Very Special Christmas” (from the White House with the President and Mrs. Clinton), and Katy was again invited to the White House in 2001—this time by President George W. Bush.

Katy also appeared on Nickelodeon’s “A World of Difference” with Linda Ellerbee as part of a Global Youth Summit to discuss issues involving people with ID. Katy attended the 2003 Special Olympics World Summer Games in Ireland as a special guest.
