The footwork came naturally, as she followed in the footsteps of her mother, Irene Reniers, a longtime dancer. Inherently, ballroom dancing is based on the concepts of leading and following. As is customary, the male partner leads, keeping time and initiating the next step. Health inequality for people with intellectual disabilities (ID) is rampant. As a direct result of being pushed to the back of the line and underserved by the health care system, people with ID are dying up to 20 times sooner than the general population, often from preventable conditions such as constipation or seizures.
