Who better to extend the hand of friendship to refugees than Special Olympics athletes?

Special Olympics Malta organized a series of events in July involving youths from the local refugee community.

The events, funded by Lions Clubs International, were come-and-try sessions in golf, hockey and football, as well as Young Athletes and Healthy Athletes promotion sessions for the families.

Following the success of the Unified Floorball event with refugee youth in Cyprus in May; over the two days, Special Olympics Malta welcomed 30 refugee children and teenagers from Ethiopia, Libya and Syria and their families warmly. Ulla Mohammad, from Syria and her four daughters, Tala (11), Naya (9), Alma (7) and Tuhama (3) were some of the participants who took part in the Young Athletes activities.

Ulla said, “This was a fun-filled day which my daughters and I enjoyed immensely, and it would be great to be part of another event with Special Olympics Malta in the future."
