The wait is finally over.
The light of the Flame of Hope leads the way for Special Olympics athletes to follow towards the World Winter Games 2022, in Kazan, Russia.
The mythical Zilant, the emblematic dragon of the city of Kazan, which also adorns the official World Winter Games 2022 logo, extends its wings in warm welcome to all the brave and determined Special Olympics athletes, who have been awaiting the return to competitions after the world was transformed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Six countries from Latin America will represent the region in this international event, competing in sports that include alpine skiing, snowboarding, cross country skiing, figure skating, short track speed skating, floorball and snowshoeing.
The World Winter Games Kazan 2022 will begin on 22 January, 2022. More than 2,000 athletes from over a 100 countries around the world will participate, supported by 3,000 volunteers. Considered the sports capital of Russia, Kazan has a deep sports heritage and the city’s sports facilities, infrastructure, and established volunteer base have hosted many world-class sports competitions. World Winter Games Kazan 2022 will mark the first time Special Olympics has brought a global competition to Russia.
