Special Olympics Ireland has welcomed a new Director of Sport to its family! Karen Coventry succeeds Frances Kavanagh who retired from the position recently after over 25 years of loyal service. Frances was one of the founding members of Special Olympics Ireland in 1978 and, rather fittingly, the baton was handed over from Frances to Karen on International Women's Day earlier this month!

This is a year full of activity for Special Olympics Ireland - not only is it Special Olympics 50th anniversary, it is Special Olympics Ireland's 40th anniversary and the year when the Ireland Games return to Dublin for the first time in 16 years!

Welcoming her new role Karen said, "I am delighted to be appointed as Director of Sport for Special Olympics Ireland. I have witnessed the impact of the programme on our athletes and their families' lives. I look forward to shaping the programme to reach and exceed the current and prevailing strategic goals in the years ahead."
