What is the Youth Innovation innovative?
Special Olympics awards grants to young people with and without intellectual disabilities (ID) to lead projects promoting inclusion in their local communities.
What kind of projects can you lead?
Youth Innovation Projects should expand inclusion in your local community. For example, you could:
- Start a new Unified Schools program
- Host an advocacy event at your school
- Bring young people with and without ID together for Unified activities including sports, art, cooking and more.
- Lead a training for members of your community on topics related to inclusion

Special Olympics Youth Leader and Unified Pairs ages 14 – 25
When can you lead a project?
There are two cycles of Youth Innovation Projects each year. Applications for the cycle 8 are due by 22 April 2022.
