Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, the president of Egypt, has awarded Special Olympics Egypt's female Unified Football team the Order of Sports Merit (Class 3) for the first time in history for their impressive achievement in the Special Olympics Unified Cup that took place in Chicago between 17 and 20 July 2018.

This is a historic mission moment for us, and it reflects Special Olympics MENA's leaders' commitment to promote inclusion and build communities that embrace and empower everyone. It marks the very first time our athletes received the same recognition as other athletes without intellectual disabilities.
