July 18, Korea - The Unified football match in collaboration with Incheon United Football Club and Suwon Samsung Bluewings took place on July 18th. This was the first-ever Special Olympics Unified Football match organized and supported by Korean Professional Football Teams. More than 300 football fans and supporters applied to become a member of the team, but only 20 candidates got to play on the historic World Cup Stadium in Suwon, Korea. Players with and without intellectual disabilities gathered every week to train. Coaches and professional players from Incheon and Suwon hosted special training sessions for the newly built unified team. Through the collective efforts, the players, who had never met each other before, built friendship and showed great teamwork on the match. Incheon United was led by Suwon Samsung to 0:4 in the first half but scored 3 goals in the second half. The final score was 5:3. The crowd at the stadium cheered for players’ excellent performances and enjoyed every moment of the game. The second match was September 15 in Incheon.
