At Special Olympics Australia we believe that Special Olympics often is one of the few places where people with an intellectual disability can have fun, make friends, develop confidence and feel part of the community. It's also a place where they can feel proud of their individual talents and abilities.
The Power of Sport. For every Special Olympics athlete, there are many more waiting for their chance. Help us reach one more person who wants to participate.
Special Olympics Australia is a year-round program of sports training and athletic competition for people with an intellectual disability.
At Special Olympics Australia we cater for all levels of ability so beginners right through to elite athletes are welcome to join our program.
We are one of the few organisations that directly helps Australians with an intellectual disability to be active, stay healthy, have fun, make friends, develop confidence and be proud of their individual talents and abilities.
Through our quality sports program delivered by passionate volunteers, Special Olympics Australia is helping over 5000 athletes reach their personal best both on and off the playing field.
However, there is much more work to do when we consider that there are 600,000 people living with an intellectual disability in Australia.
With over 250 competitions held every year nationwide, and regular training every week, we will continue to work closely with our corporate partners and sports partners to provide more opportunities for more people with an intellectual disability to participate in sport and the wider community.
