Special Olympics World Games Berlin 2023 Launches Volunteer Registration

Berlin, Germany – 20 September, 2020: With exactly 1,000 days to go until the start of Special Olympics World Games Berlin 2023, volunteer registration is now open for the world's largest inclusive sporting event for people with intellectual disabilities. Up to 20,000 volunteers will contribute to an unforgettable experience in the German capital. Starting Sunday, September 20, 2020 volunteers can pre-register via the official website at www.en.berlin2023.org/volunteers

1000 Days to Berlin 2023

For the first time in history, Special Olympics World Games will take place in Germany. Berlin will welcome 7,000 athletes from more than 170 nations to compete in 26 sports from June 17 – 24, 2023. Alternating every two years between summer and winter sports, Special Olympics World Games are a demonstration of inclusion, acceptance, and empowerment for people with intellectual disabilities. Special Olympics World Games Berlin 2023 will make an impact far beyond sports, including programming in culture, education, science, and health open to all visitors and participants.

The volunteer program is an opportunity to join an international team of 20,000 people dedicated to running a major sporting event and more importantly, showcasing the transformative power of inclusion. The volunteer program is as inclusive as the event itself and is open to people of all abilities. Applicants who are 16 years or older can register to become a volunteer. Organizers of the World Games also seek individuals or groups interested in volunteering at Special Olympics Germany’s National Games in Summer 2022.

About Special Olympics World Games Berlin 2023

Taking place from 17 – 25 June 2023, the Special Olympics World Games in Berlin will be one of the largest sport and humanitarian events to take place that year. Following the Opening Ceremony in the renowned Berlin Olympic Stadium, an estimated 7,000 athletes from over 170 nations will compete in 24 sports across Berlin’s state-of-the-art competition venues. They will be supported by 3,000 coaches and an estimated 20,000 volunteers. The Games will also attract 6,000 family members, more than 2,000 national and international media, and 500,000 spectators.
