Help Sustain Our Planet this Earth Day with Tips from Special Olympics New Jersey

Special Olympics athletes cycling, cheering, and swimming with text ‘One More Tri Asbury Park: 4 ways to Go Green on Race Day’.
An event flier from Special Olympics New Jersey

Earth Day is a worldwide event held annually on April 22nd and you can do your part to invest in our planet with tips from Special Olympics New Jersey. First held in 1970, Earth Day encourages everyone to protect the environment by reducing waste. These tips from Special Olympics New Jersey athletes and staff are tremendous ideas to “go green” when holding athletic events:

  • Eliminate single-use plastic bottles by offering free water-fill stations
  • Provide eco-friendly t-shirts and medals
  • Ride a bike to the competition
  • Recycle bibs and other paper goods

Special Olympics New Jersey gathered ideas from Athletes for a Fit Planet—an organization dedicated to helping events and races become more sustainable—to learn strategies in minimizing the impact on the environment.
