How Eunice Kennedy Shriver founded the Special Olympics

FanSided has released a tribute to Special Olympics founder Eunice Kennedy Shriver during the yearlong celebration of what would have been her 100th birthday on 10 July. The tribute provides an in depth look at how Special Olympics came to be in 1968.

This piece features Chairman of Special Olympics Timothy Shriver as well as members of the Founder’s Council (made up of the descendants of Eunice Kennedy Shriver) including Tim Shriver, Jr. and Kathleen Shriver. Kester Edwards a Manager of Sports and Development at Special Olympics also shares his fondest memories and lessons learned from Mrs. Shriver.
