2015 Polar Bear Plunge

The Special Olympics D.C. Polar Bear Plunge brings together children and adults who are interested in two things: raising money to support the athletes of Special Olympics D.C. and having fun doing something wild! The Polar Bear Plunge will occur on two weekends in a row in different locations. Special Olympics D.C. provides essential year-round sports training and competition programs for children and adults with intellectual disabilities in the District of Columbia. Anyone can be a part of this cool event (participants under the age of 18 require a parent or guardian signature), as long as you raise a minimum of $50 (but hopefully more!).

LETR consists of officers from both Law Enforcement and Corrections who raise funds and create awareness for Special Olympics Michigan year round. By participating in a Polar Plunge around the state you are helping to raise funds for nearly 21,000 athletes who participate in Special Olympics Michigan. Special Olympics Michigan is a year round program offering sports for those with intellectual disabilities. 31st Annual Media Ski Challenge

The 31st Annual Media Ski Challenge will be held at the all new Mt. Brighton/Epic Ski Resort on Saturday, January 31st, 2015. Local Advertising and Production facilities will compete against each other to raise money for Special Olympics. As always, proceeds from this year’s event will be used to provide needed equipment for local area Special Olympic teams. The race is open to all media employees throughout Southeast Michigan. A traveling “Challenge Cup” will be awarded to the team that raises the most money through pledges, donations, etc. Team trophies will also be awarded to other race winners at the results party following the event, Silent Auction, and Raffle. Donations will be used for the sole purpose and benefit of the Special Olympics of Mid-Michigan, a volunteer, non-profit organization providing year round sports training and athletic competition in 21 different sports, to athletes ages 8 and above with intellectual disabilities. The money raised from this event will help to support the equipment, training and competition needs of the Special Olympic Alpine/Snowboard team. **Team Captains will receive 2 lift tickets for each registrant to allow team members to come out to practice prior to the race date (up to 14 tickets). Lift tickets and racing will be free of charge to Media Team members the day of the race. Rental equipment is also available, if needed.

4th Annual NBA Cares Special Olympics Unified Basketball Game

Twelve (12) Special Olympics athletes have been selected to participate in this season’s NBA Cares Unified Sports®Basketball Game. This Special Olympics Unified Sports® experience will combine an equal number of Special Olympics athletes (individuals with intellectual disabilities) and partners (individuals without intellectual disabilities) on teams for a 5-­-on-­-5 Basketball game with 12 players on each team. Each team will be comprised of 6 NBA legends and WNBA players and 6 Special Olympics athletes. The game will be played for 40 minutes with two 20-­-minute halves running time with a 10-­-minute half-­-time break.
