The mission of Special Olympics Germany is "to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with an intellectual disability, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendships with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community."

Special Olympics Germany was established in October of 1991. Currently, there are approximately 38,000 people who are volunteers, athletes and employees participating in our programs.  Special Olympics Germany is organized into 13 regional associations and 685 member organizations.

Sports and Competition
Our organization provides children and adults with intellectual disabilities year-round training and competition through a variety of sports.  Every year, Special Olympics Germany along with the support our state programs, host more that 150 regional competitions.

Programs
Special Olympics is more than just a sports organization--there are actually a number programs that are solely devoted to enriching the everyday lives of our athletes.  An example would be our Healthy Athletes Program which is focused on improving the overall health and fitness of our athletes.

Partnerships
Special Olympics Germany works in partnership with a number institutions and organizations to continue educating, engaging and promoting the support of people with intellectual disabilities.
