As part of the global Special Olympics Movement that serves three million athletes in more than 170 countries throughout the world, Special Olympics Indiana serves more than 10,000 Hoosier adults and children with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to demonstrate courage, experience joy and share their gifts with the community.
Sports
Staying true to its rich Hoosier sports heritage, Special Olympics Indiana is a leader in sports programming, as the founder of Special Olympics flag football and ballroom dancing, a forerunner in the Unified Sports program and the only Special Olympics Program in the country to host a women’s basketball tournament.
Leadership
In addition, our athlete leadership program is second to none. Through a unique college-like curriculum, athletes learn the skills they need to take on meaningful roles other than that of competitor, engaging in coaching, public speaking and management experiences.
