Every athlete aims to travel through a specific water distance paddling either on his/ her own or in pairs of two (2), achieving the best possible time. Special Olympics kayaking is a flat-water racing event where athletes compete either on their own or as a pair with another athlete. Kayaking is one of the newest Special Olympics sports. It requires fundamental abilities in order to be safe and successful.

Kayak Event Recognizes International Day of Sport for Peace and Development

On the occasion of the International Day of Sport for Peace and Development on 6 April 2014, 35 Special Olympics Hellas (Greece) athletes and 22 Unified partners from Athens and Chania participated in the Kayak national championship “SOUDA 2014.”View Story On the occasion of the International Day of Sport for Peace and Development on 6 April 2014, 35 Special Olympics Hellas (Greece) athletes and 22 Unified partners from Athens and Chania participated in the Kayak national championship “SOUDA 2014.” The championship was organized by the Nautical Club of Chania in cooperation with Special Olympics Hellas, and held in the famous Souda Bay (Chania, Island of Grete). The event brought together Special Olympics athletes with Olympic and World Class athletes from different nautical clubs of Greece who competed in the spirit of unity celebrating peace and sport in an environment of acceptance.

Standup Paddling joins Special Olympics in Florida

The Second Annual Monroe Invitational, held October 13th in Key West was “A huge celebration of our athlete’s joy and love of the sport of standup paddling.”

Thanks to the efforts of a dedicated group who embody the mission of Special Olympics in true Aloha spirit, Florida has begun offering standup paddling as a competition sport.View Story Thanks to the efforts of a dedicated group who embody the mission of Special Olympics in true Aloha spirit, Florida has begun offering standup paddling as a competition sport. County-level Special Olympics standup paddling events have served as a catalyst for volunteer involvement and support by professional paddlers, racers, outfitters and manufacturers who have donated equipment, training locations and coaching expertise. State officials have formed a Standup Paddling Management Committee that has been training coaches statewide. Everyone involved been amazed by the athlete’s progress, and they see the multi-faceted values in this kind of training. See the whole story and more pictures at the link below.

Special Olympics Hellas Celebrates 45th Anniversary of Special Olympics

On 14 July 2013, 44 Special Olympics Hellas athletes and 22 Unified partners from Athens, Chania and Halkida participated in the 23rd Canoe-Kayak championships.View Story On 14 July 2013, 44 Special Olympics Hellas athletes and 22 Unified partners from Athens, Chania and Halkida participated in the 23rd Canoe-Kayak championships. Organized by the National Canoe-Kayak Federation of Greece, and held in the famous Olympic Rowing Center near Athens (where the Athens 2011 Kayak event took place), the championship brought together Special Olympics athletes with Olympic and World class athletes to celebrate the 45th Anniversary of Special Olympics. Present at the event were the President of the Canoe-Kayak Federation Mr. Antonis Nikolopoulos and Special Olympics Hellas President Joanna Despotopoulou who, together with the new deputy Minister for Culture and Sports Mr. Yiannis Andrianos and the President of the Rowing Federation Mr. Yiannis Karras presented medals to all athletes, while parents, friends, coaches and volunteers cheered with enthusiasm and pride. Thank you Eunice for endowing the World with Special Olympics! Your legacy will guide us forever.

2014 Montana State Summer Games

Centered at Rocky Mountain College, with special events at the Metra and competition across Billings and the surrounding area – including local bowling, aquatics, kayaking, cycling, track and field and golf venues. The competition unfolds in a swell of intensity and joy. Athletes work hard to get to the Games. World Summer Games Los Angeles 2015

In July of 2015 more than 7,000 athletes from 170 countries will come to Los Angeles, California for the Special Olympics World Summer Games and enjoy 10 days full of joy, friendship and competition. Athletes will compete in 22 sports. The event expects to attract 500,000 spectators and 30,000 volunteers and 3,000 coaches.
