Learning Floorball, a New Sport for All in Jamaica

By Victor L. Brown

Victor L. Brown of Special Olympics Jamaica will take part in a training clinic in Austria to learn more about the sport of floorball and how to bring it back to Jamaica as a sport that can be played in teams that mix people with and without intellectual disabilities.View Story Victor L. Brown of Special Olympics Jamaica will take part in a training clinic in Austria to learn more about the sport of floorball and how to bring it back to Jamaica as a sport that can be played in teams that mix people with and without intellectual disabilities. “I see this as a great opportunity for Special Olympics Jamaica to obtain first hand instruction on how to organize and coach the sport to our athletes. I’ve attended International Floorball Federation lead clinics in Toronto at last year’s Canada Cup and here in Jamaica, but this will be the first with an emphasis on Special Olympics athletes." Brown is the coordinator for floorball and floor hockey for Special Olympics Jamaica. The training clinic is set for April 24 to 27 in Austria. "We’ve been doing our best, Richard Oates and I, to translate what we’ve learnt from the IFF perspective, but this upcoming clinic will solidify the specific techniques that we can apply to athletes, so I’m really looking forward to it and I’m sure that the four other coaches will benefit also from what I bring back.”

About Victor L. Brown:I've been with Special Olympics Jamaica for 18 years working in very capacity. I'm now responsible for Unified Floor Hockey and Floorball.
