Softball is a bat-and-ball sport played between two teams of 10 to 14 players. Every team aims in scoring as many runs possible, against the opponents by striking the ball with a specific bat. It is a direct descendant of baseball although there are some key differences: softballs are larger than baseballs, and the pitches are thrown underhand rather than overhand. The game is played on a smaller diamond than in baseball and despite the game's name, the standard softball is not soft; in fact, it is harder than a baseball.

By Keith Goldman

I volunteered in transportation. A photograph of the St. Louis softball team taken with Justin Turner of the LA Dodgers appeared on the Special Olympics web page.View Story I volunteered in transportation. A photograph of the St. Louis softball team taken with Justin Turner of the LA Dodgers appeared on the Special Olympics web page. I printed the picture and asked the team to sign it. They were thrilled and happy to be honored this way. I emailed their coach a copy of the signed photo but never got a message that it was received. If you have an address for Dana Grieinger, please forward the attached picture to her.

About Keith Goldman:I am just a very thankful family man who was trying to put smiles on faces.

Golfer Posts Personal Best and Special Olympics Record

By Jill Hammergren

Scott Rohrer of Special Olympics Team USA was in the zone this week at golf. After his four-day tournament, he posted a total score of 276, or 12 under par, a new personal best and the lowest any Special Olympics golfer has finished for a World Games event.View Story Scott Rohrer of Special Olympics Team USA was in the zone this week at golf. After his four-day tournament, he posted a total score of 276, or 12 under par, a new personal best and the lowest any Special Olympics golfer has finished for a World Games event. This is 39 shots better than the previous low at a World Games event. “It was awesome and wild to shoot the record. It blew me away,” Rohrer said. He started playing golf 19 years ago. Now he beats his Dad on a regular basis. Scott’s favorite pro golfers are Jordan Speith and Tiger Woods. He’s met both of them and played with Jordan two times. “Special Olympics has changed my life dramatically,” Rohrer said, “and this participating in the World Games, is definitely in my top five experiences.” The other four include playing at Congressional, playing Sherwood, and participating in national game events in Nebraska and New Jersey.
