Special Champions League
This Special Olympics Belgium-led project is funded through the Erasmus+ programme and SOEE are a key partner. Special Olympics role is to advise the professional football clubs in the project on how to develop coaching programmes and football teams for people with ID. Special Olympics will also support the project’s ‘matchdays’ that will take place to align them with how Special Olympics football tournaments are hosted (e.g divisioning, tournament structures, etc.). The other partners in the project are the European Football Development Network (EFDN), Den Haag, Werder Bremen, Bayer Leverkusen, FC, NEC, Kas Eupen, Benfica, Heusca and Levante.


Project Objectives/Activities

One

Establish an inclusive football movement, that provides frequent sporting opportunities for those with intellectual disabilities (ID)

Two

Provide safe, inclusive, and active environments where young people with ID over the age of 15 can come together and play football at a level they are all comfortable with.

Three

Provide regular opportunities for young people with ID over the age of 15 to socialise with youngsters who do not have intellectual disabilities.
