Special Olympics Family Forum

July 10 - 12, Xi’An - Special Olympics (SO) Family Forum was successfully held in Xi'an, China, between July 10th – 12th, 2018. Returning to the ancient capital of China, the host city of the first SO China Family Forum which took place 16 years ago. At this milestone time of Special Olympics' 50th anniversary, it has unique meaning to every family leader who had ever witnessed the growth of the Special Olympics movement, especially when the glorious development of its history was reviewed. This family forum's theme was "Empowering Family Leaders and Leading the way to Inclusion". The Family Leaders from mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, Korea and Mongolia shared what they had been doing to involve individuals with intellectual disabilities into the society and relevant outcome. Other focuses included what Convention of the Rights of Person with Disabilities meant to parents, discussing how to build a strong/healthy family organization, through changing mindset to explore inclusive leadership and its application, more family members will be inspired to become the builders and leaders of a society of inclusion.
