In an article that made the front page of USA Today Sports’ 13 September 2021 edition, the life and legacy of Special Olympics Founder Eunice Kennedy Shriver is captured during the year-long celebration of what would have been her 100th birthday.

The article, titled 'More than a medal:' Special Olympics continues Eunice Kennedy Shriver's fight for societal inclusion, looks at how Shriver’s work continues through four game changers in the Special Olympics movement. One of them, Loretta Claiborne, Special Olympics Pennsylvania athlete and Vice Chair of the Special Olympics Board of Directors, recounts how Shriver insisted Loretta bring her full self to any situation.

Also featured are Shriver’s son, Timothy Shriver, who serves as Special Olympics Chairman of the Board, Special Olympics Pennsylvania athlete Chris Nikic, who became the first person with Down syndrome to complete an IRONMAN full-length triathlon, and NBA legend Dikembe Mutombo.
