As Vice President, Health Services and Education, Dr. Williams leads Special Olympics International’s Health strategic pillars of assessment and training to improve global health outcomes in people with intellectual disabilities (ID) in over 115 countries and seven regions. She oversees the development and delivery of new, advanced virtual and in-person clinical assessment and training initiatives which address health disparities in people with ID. Her work will also ensure that healthcare professionals and students are adequately prepared to deliver exceptional care to people with ID, so that inclusive health is a reality for all.
Dr. Williams brings over 30 years of progressive healthcare leadership experience to Special Olympics. Prior to joining Special Olympics, she recently led Community and Population Health initiatives at the University of Maryland Medical System where she authored and managed a $15 million grant on diabetes prevention and management. She was deployed during the COVID pandemic to develop and lead the mass vaccination site at the M & T Bank Stadium in Baltimore for seven months. During this time, she was the Planning Section Chief and Clinical Operations Lead overseeing daily operations which included 400 nurses, 50 pharmacy staff, and additional non-clinical support staff. The site was a designated Category 1 FEMA mass vaccination site and administered 248,523 vaccines in 100 days and was recognized by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) for several best practices and operational work processes.
Dr. Williams received her Doctorate, Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees from the University of Maryland. She also completed a MBA Certificate from Tulane University. In addition, she is a certified professional in healthcare quality. Dr. Williams has presented numerous professional presentations and publications and serves as adjunct faculty for the University of Maryland School of Nursing.
