A Letter from Dr. Dicken Yung

August 12, 2009

To the Shriver Family, we send you our most sincere condolences.

The World has lost a Great Mother, a mother who had given so much care and love to countless special people with intellectual disabilities at all fronts. Her initiative to found the Movement of Special Olympics has subsequently brought positive changes to so many and their families. Her impact and legacy are ongoing. Just in Asian countries alone, especially China over 1.5 million special athletes now regularly participate in Special Olympics. The continued support and change of attitude for acceptance and inclusion from the governments and communities, is admirably prevailing! All these lasting impacts are purely the result of Mrs. Shriver's vision, personal caring and involvement in Asia and the rest of the world.

May we all, as inspired admirers and fans of Special Olympics, celebrate the great life and legacy of the late Mrs. Kennedy Shriver, and be encouraged to commit ourselves further to this great Movement of Special Olympics!

Dr. Dicken Yung,

Member of Special Olympics International Board of Directors,

Former Hon President, Asia Pacific Region
