May 9-14, 2018 – A Special Olympics Korea Unified Soccer team traveled to Liverpool, England for the second friendly match with a Unified Soccer team from Everton In The Community, which is the official charity of Everton Football Club.
The soccer match took place on May 10th in the morning on the pitch at Goodison Park, home to Everton Football Club. Goodison Park, one of the oldest stadiums in the world, has hosted more top-flight games than any other stadiums in England. Because of its uniqueness and value, the players with and without intellectual disabilities on both sides gained once-in-a-life time experience.
Both organizations also had an executive meeting to discuss about how to continue to provide this kind of experiences for people with intellectual disabilities in both countries. As a result, it is expected that two organizations will collaborate to provide diverse social programs in sports, health, and education for social inclusion.
