Tom Golisano has once again been named to the Chronicle of Philanthropy’s annual Philanthropy 50 list, ranking 12th among the nation’s leading donors and marking his fifth appearance on the Top 50 list.
Since 2012, Special Olympics has partnered with Mr. Tom Golisano and the Golisano Foundation to improve the health of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) globally.
To date, Mr. Golisano has contributed more than $67 million to launch and expand Special Olympics Healthy Communities. Healthy Communities works to improve the health of people with IDD by increasing access to quality health care and effective prevention programming, increasing training for healthcare providers and students, and partnering with organizations globally to champion health equity. Since the partnership’s inception in 2012, Special Olympics has been able to offer more than 1 million health screenings with over 337,000 conducted since 2022, ensuring follow-up care is received and assuring people with IDD can access health care in their communities year-round.
Thanks to Mr. Golisano’s generous philanthropy, Special Olympics is making healthcare and preventive services more accessible and inclusive for Special Olympics athletes, and others with IDD, around the world.
