Wenhui designed a project targeting adolescent-aged girls with and without intellectual and developmental disabilities in their community. The goal was to expand access to education on a variety of sexual and reproductive health, personal hygiene, and self-protection topics. By providing this education, Wenhui hoped to equip participants with practical knowledge, confidence, and tools to protect themselves if ever needed. The project also launched a campaign through the China Medical University, supporting the education of future healthcare professionals about inclusive practices.
Wenhui was inspired by the female participants of the project, as well as the dedication of university volunteers who consistently contributed careful time and attention to the program. Together, the participants and volunteers truly emphasized the importance of creating a safer, and more inclusive, environment.

Additionally, Wenhui was supported by the teachers at partner schools, whose professional expertise and unwavering dedication helped guide the projects’ implementation. Their knowledge, compassion, and advocacy served as a reminder of the impact dedicated supporters can have on changing communities.
Working with Hunnan Sunshine School, Wenhui and her team delivered age-appropriate and accessible education on personal hygiene, sexual health, and self-protection. The lessons were carefully written to ensure participants were able to understand and engage with the material. To ensure quality and accuracy, they consulted professional experts to review educational content. As sessions progressed, participants demonstrated greater comfort in discussing these topics.

Recognizing that inclusion also requires creating change within the community, Wenhui expanded her project beyond direct education. At China Medical University, the team launched a “Call to End Cyber Violence” campaign, educating future healthcare professionals about the harmful effects of online harassment and discrimination. Students were encouraged to reflect on the impact of their words and actions, calling them to commit to inclusion both on- and offline.

Finally, in collaboration with Liaoning He University of Medicine, Wenhui introduced Special Olympics to university students. These partnerships were made not for a one-time event, but as long-term collaborations that would cultivate a network of young advocates committed to fostering local inclusion.
The project was able to successfully implement a program that empowered adolescent girls, while also fostering inclusion among university students and future healthcare professionals. Participants gained access to information about personal safety, health, and self-care, helping them build confidence and strengthen their ability to protect themselves in daily life. By providing these resources in an accessible and supportive manner, the project established a stronger safety net for young people.

This positive impact extended beyond the direct participants. Through partnerships with three educational institutions, it cultivated greater awareness and understanding of how to promote inclusion among university students, particularly those interested in careers in healthcare. The tangible shifts in attitude and understanding within volunteers, participants, and future healthcare professionals affirmed that meaningful change occurs when education, empathy, and action come together.
One thing that was particularly meaningful to Wenhui was watching the progression from the beginning, where participants were avoidant, to active engagement during sessions. These moments demonstrated the transformative power of accessible education and supportive environments, extending beyond simply the subject matter being taught. It reinforced that it is not enough to provide information; it must be accessible, understandable, and catered towards everyone’s specific needs.

Wenhui summarizes her project’s importance with these words: “Looking back on this journey, what I am most proud of is not the number of activities we held, but how we successfully turned inclusion from an abstract concept into tangible acts of connection, genuine conversations, and firm commitments." Her project demonstrates that true inclusion requires meaningful relationships and a shared goal to ensure that every person is respected and seen.
