This project brought together youth leaders with and without intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) from six schools participating in Unified Champion Schools (UCS) programming in Islamabad, Pakistan. Together, they established three Unified Leadership Clubs, trained student leaders and educators, and provided ongoing support to participating schools. The project concluded with a Unified Leaders Best Practices Exchange Forum, where club members shared their experiences and lessons learned.

By integrating Unified Leadership Clubs into the existing UCS model, the project created new opportunities for students with and without IDD to develop leadership skills together while fostering inclusion within their schools.
The project was inspired by the friendships that developed between the youth leaders through Unified programming. As one youth leader reflected, participating in the project gave him the confidence to lead activities, support fellow athletes, and actively participate in decision-making.

The youth leaders also expressed gratitude to their mentor for providing guidance, encouragement, and support that helped them recognize their abilities and leadership potential.
Collaborating with six mainstream and special schools in Pakistan, the project established Unified Leadership Clubs that brought together students with and without IDD. Club members worked together to plan, lead, and host inclusive activities that strengthened relationships and promoted leadership throughout the school community.

The project successfully recruited 30 youth leaders who committed to participating for one academic year. Students received leadership training through regular club meetings and the Inclusive Youth Leadership Summit, equipping them with the skills to establish three paired Unified Leadership Clubs. Together, they also developed a youth-friendly, accessible resource to simplify and promote Unified Leadership practices for future participants.
The project created meaningful impact at both the youth and school levels. Youth leaders learned to share responsibility, co-lead discussions, and make decisions together, building confidence and strengthening their leadership skills.

The initiative also increased confidence among school administrators. While some schools were initially uncertain whether collaboration between mainstream and special schools could be sustained, the success of the clubs demonstrated the long-term value of inclusive leadership.

Today, Unified Leadership Clubs have become part of regular school activities. With trained educators and strong partnerships between participating schools, the clubs are positioned to benefit future generations of students. In addition, the club training model has been incorporated into Special Olympics Pakistan's annual Youth Leadership Summit, where established clubs mentor and support new schools in launching their own Unified Leadership Clubs.
The youth leaders shared that their most meaningful memories came from learning and leading alongside one another. One youth leader reflected that, before joining the program, he believed leadership meant organizing activities, directing others, and telling people what to do. Working alongside his Athlete leader partner completely changed his perspective. He came to understand that leadership is built on collaboration, shared responsibility, and learning from one another, describing the experience as deeply transformative.
