Youth leaders Baqir and Ayan from Special Olympics Pakistan saw how Unified Champion Schools were bringing students together through shared activities in their community. Inspired by this success, they wanted to create opportunities for youth with and without intellectual and developmental disabilities to develop leadership skills together through Unified Leadership Clubs.

The project identified youth leaders with and without intellectual and developmental disabilities from six schools across Lahore, Pakistan, and established three Unified Leadership Clubs. The youth leaders helped facilitate training for club members and engaged educators to support the clubs. The training focused on Unified Leadership principles and the youth-led model of Unified Champion Schools. The project concluded with a Unified Leaders Best Practices Exchange Forum, bringing together youth leaders involved in the project to share their experiences and ideas.
Ayan and Baqir were inspired by the courage and leadership of Special Olympics athletes and their ability to turn their ideas into action. They were also inspired by each other, supporting one another throughout the project and working together during their joint sessions.
The Unified Leadership Club project created spaces for schools in Lahore to feel confident starting, running, and sustaining their own Unified Leadership Clubs. The project also strengthened the planning and leadership skills of youth with and without intellectual and developmental disabilities, giving them opportunities to lead and make decisions together.
The project successfully introduced Unified Leadership principles to participating schools and helped strengthen youth-led inclusion. Today, six Unified Champion Schools have active Unified Leadership Clubs, with youth taking the lead in planning and implementing activities.

The project also gave youth and educators a new perspective on inclusion and highlighted the importance of shared planning and leadership.
Baqir and Ayan shared that some of their favorite memories were the Unified Sports events and seeing how a shared love of sports brought participants together. At one event hosted by Rising Sun Institute, young leaders participated in Unified Table Tennis and Bocce, teaching and learning from one another while taking on leadership roles.
