Fit 4 Inclusion is a youth-led project that actively brought together young people with and without intellectual disabilities through a series of shared, hands-on activities designed to build inclusion in everyday life. The project organized school-based workshops on inclusion, an inclusive hiking experience, a community movie night, and environmental activities like planting terrariums and creating green spaces.

About the Project

David-Mihai and Eva-Maria are twin siblings who are passionate about fostering inclusion in the Ploiești community of Romania.

The project aimed to engage new youth leaders by organizing inclusion-focused workshops in schools, alongside unified ecology and sustainability activities. These included planting terrariums, participating in an inclusive hike, hosting a community movie night, and organizing creative and environmental initiatives that encouraged teamwork and connection.

The Inspiration

The project was inspired by the youth leaders’ mentors and their mother.

The Project

Some of the favorite memories from the project highlight the impact of shared experiences. For David-Mihai, his favorite memory was the inclusive hike, where participants bonded through conversation, laughter, and music, losing track of time and enjoying each other’s company. Eva-Maria's favorite memory was during the movie night, when young people without disabilities read subtitles aloud to support those with disabilities.

Project Impact

The project helped people in the community become aware of the power of inclusion and empowered young people to have the courage to express themselves. It created a supportive and joyful environment where differences were embraced, and participants built authentic connections through shared activities.

The initiative engaged both youth with and without intellectual disabilities, encouraging teamwork, empathy, and respect while strengthening a sense of community.

Project Leaders Reflection

Through this project, both leaders developed important personal and leadership skills. Eva-Maria strengthened her patience and leadership abilities, while David-Mihai improved his public speaking skills and learned to express his ideas with confidence, empathy, and clarity.

They are especially proud of the participants who demonstrated cooperation, kindness, and enthusiasm throughout the project. The experience also strengthened their bond as siblings, improving their communication and teamwork.
