Advocacy/Community Engagement
Ana Lucia and Silvana’s project in Peru helped people with intellectual and developmental disabilities build employment skills and connect with potential employers. Through tailored training workshops and a Job Fair, the youth leaders created new opportunities for participants to prepare for the workforce, explore their interests, and pursue employment.
About the Project
The project focused on preparing participants to enter the workforce by helping them identify their interests, develop employment-ready skills, pursue current and future job opportunities, and explore ways to generate their own income.
The Inspiration
Seeing participants build new skills and achieve their goals throughout the project became one of the most meaningful sources of inspiration for the youth leaders.
The Project
Following the training workshops, the youth leaders hosted an exchange that brought companies and employers together for a Job Fair. The event created a bridge between people with IDD seeking employment and companies looking to hire, providing participants with opportunities to connect directly with potential employers.
Project Impact
Project Leaders Reflection
Moving forward, the youth leaders plan to continue promoting employment opportunities for people with disabilities in their workplaces and throughout their communities.
