The youth leaders designed the project around three core components: a Sports Day, cultural workshops, and tailored sex education classes. Together, these activities aimed to engage students with and without intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) in shared, inclusive experiences.

The Sports Day promoted physical activity and teamwork by inviting students from a local school to join campus peers in inclusive games and activities. Throughout the year, cultural workshops were held to celebrate diversity and foster greater understanding across different backgrounds. In addition, the project addressed a critical gap in education by delivering age-appropriate, accessible sex education for students with IDD, with an emphasis on self-awareness, boundaries, and personal safety.
The project was inspired by the Special Olympics Unified Sports model, which brings together individuals with and without intellectual disabilities to build mutual understanding and inclusion.

The youth leaders also received valuable support and inspiration from teachers at the Changshu School, who provided essential guidance on communication strategies and safety practices.
The initiative had a direct impact on the local community by bringing 20–30 students from the Changshu School to the host campus for an Inclusive Sports Day. Activities included unified frisbee, mosaic art, and piano sessions, allowing students to connect through both physical activity and creative expression.

In addition to the event, the project implemented cultural workshops and developed plans for specialized, accessible sex education sessions tailored to the needs of students with IDD, further extending its reach and impact.
The project successfully created a supportive and joyful environment that promoted the physical, social, and emotional development of students with IDD. Participants experienced a strong sense of belonging while building relationships and confidence through inclusive activities.

To sustain the project’s impact, the team organized a campus-wide Special Olympics stand featuring photos and creative works from the event. This exhibit helped raise awareness and continued to educate the broader school community about inclusion and diversity.
In reflecting on their experience, the youth leaders expressed pride in successfully executing a complex and multi-faceted initiative that balanced physical activity, creative expression, and meaningful education. They highlighted the rewarding experience of seeing students with IDD feel welcomed, valued, and empowered within an inclusive environment, while also recognizing the growth of their volunteer team as empathetic and responsible leaders.
